Art project

Ordering an artwork from an artist or artists for a specific construction target or a more extensive project, so that the work includes the planning and implementation of the artwork.

Art expert

(also: art coordinator or consultant)

A person or a group that integrates the art project into a part of the construction project.

The art expert acts as an intermediary and a link between the parties to the project. The extent of the work is adapted according to the size of the project

Art programme

(also: art scheme)

A general plan for using art. The programme defines the objectives guiding the parties, the means of co-operation and the methods and timetables for acquiring and financing art.

Percent for art

According to the traditional definition, the percent-for-art principle means that approximately 1% of the construction project budget is used on art. Using the principle does not in itself define how the art is acquired or the type of artwork, instead it functions as a generic term for the decision in principle to spend some of the construction budget on art.

Artist

A professional who has received an education in the arts and works full-time to produce art and from whom the public artwork is acquired.

Artist consultant

An artist in a role in which they participate in the planning of the whole as a paid expert and as a member of the planning team or group. In such cases, the objective is usually not a site-separate artwork but one in which the contribution of the artist can be seen in the end result as forming a strongly integrated part of the whole.

Funding model

In the funding model, for instance, the developers of a new residential area pay a certain part of the construction cost into a collective fund. The funding can be defined, for example, by the ground area to be built upon.

Public art

Art in a public place, either outdoors or indoors. A public artwork can be funded by states, municipalities or private individuals.
